What is the Suzuki method of learning the guitar?

The fundamental philosophy is that every child can learn a musical instrument, just like every child learns to speak, and that this ability develops early.

Dr. Shinichi Suzuki observed, many years ago, that all children learn to speak their native language at an early age. He applied the same method of this language acquisition to learning a musical instrument and called it the Mother Tongue Method.

The fundamental philosophy is that every child can learn a musical instrument, just like every child learns to speak, and that this ability develops early. That is why children can start their instrument study at the age of 3 years old. Just as parents teach their children to speak with an environment in which children hear their native language spoken all the time, parents create a music environment for children to learn their instrument. Listening to music begins at birth and formal lessons between the ages of 3 and 5 years old.

Teaching music is not my main purpose. I want to make good citizens. If children hear fine music from the day of their birth and learn to play it, they develop sensitivity, discipline and endurance. They get a beautiful heart.
Shinichi Suzuki
